Welcome to the Balkans!
Your adventure begins with a scenic two-hour transfer to Prevalla Pass, a remote mountain retreat at 1,515 meters. Upon arrival, settle into your cozy accommodation and enjoy a warm welcome dinner featuring traditional dishes. Over local plum rakija, your guide will introduce the program for the week.
OLD: We recommend flying to the Prishtina airport, located only 1.5 hours away from tonight’s hotel. Our driver will meet you there for the group transfer towards the Sharr Mountains. In case you’re elsewhere, just let us know your whereabouts timely and we’re happy to arrange a private transfer for you. The destination is the highest point of the Prevalla Pass (1.535 m). Here, humid air masses of the Adriatic sea meet the over 2.400 m high peaks of Sharr rising from the Dukagjin plane. Immense amounts of powder snow cover the wind-protected meadows ranging across the north-western part. Had there not been enough snow in Sarajevo in 1984, the Olympic Winter Games would have been held here - it goes as the region with the most snowfall in the Balkans. The comfy mountain hotel will be your overnight stay for 3 nights. Enjoy a hearty dinner of traditional dishes, while the group comes together. Your ski guide will meet you there for an introduction round and briefing. Afterwards, a plum raki toast will seal a wonderful beginning to the adventure awaiting.

Activity
A ski touring journey with six full touring days, averaging 4-6 hours of uphill activity daily and elevation gains of 800 to 1,200 meters per day. Routes are chosen for optimal snow conditions and safety, with mostly open terrain but also occasional forested sections. No technical skills (e.g., glacier or ropework) are required, though participants should have a solid base of ski touring experience and good physical fitness.
Accommodation
The first four nights are spent in a cozy mountain hotel in Prevalla, offering private rooms with en-suite facilities and hearty meals to prepare you for the days ahead. Moving to Dragash, the next two nights provide a similar standard of comfort in a simpler hotel that sits in the center of the small town and caters well to outdoor enthusiasts. The journey concludes with an overnight stay in Prizren, where you’ll enjoy a centrally located hotel.
Weather
From January to early April, expect consistent snow cover at higher altitudes, ideal for ski touring. Daytime temperatures in the valleys hover between -5°C and 5°C, while higher elevations often experience sub-zero conditions throughout the day. The weather can be unpredictable, ranging from clear, crisp days with excellent visibility to periods of heavy snowfall and low visibility. Winds at altitude may intensify the chill, particularly on exposed ridges and peaks. Participants should prepare for variable conditions, including the potential for icy terrain, strong winds, and occasional snowstorms, all of which add to the adventure of this alpine winter tour.
