Why take a local guide?
If you prefer not to join a group tour or splurge on a private tour, but also don’t want to go on your own for safety, logistical or communication reasons, taking a local guide might be for you.
Local guides are limited English-speaking amateurs who work only in a specific region. They are no professional tour leaders, and may be less skilled and trained than the guides leading our guided group tours. But don’t be fooled into thinking a local guide will simply accompany you to show you the way.
Instead, they are passionate ambassadors of their home region, which they know inside out, including the local flora and fauna, culture and religious customs, local contacts and hidden spots.
Availability of local guides, and how to book one
Local guides are currently only available on the Hidden Valley Trek and High Scardus Trail.
In order to take a local guide on your trip, please add the relevant option during the booking process of the respective self-guided tour. Once you selected your desired dates in the first step, you can request a local guide for the displayed fee. Please note that availability for local guides is limited.
